In writing, as in anything you do, practice is an important part of the process. Here at Write Practice, we offer up a writing exercise. Using to prompt, take ten minutes to write what ever and where ever it takes you. Write fast, don't stop to edit. Don't think too hard. Try to be precise--rose is more precise than flower, for example, but don't worry if you're not. Don't be afraid to go down the path, if it leads to dark place, that's okay. If you think it's silly or dumb, that's okay too. The idea here is to get past the internal editor and take chances. Afterwards, you can plumb your writing for the seeds of a story or a poem or an essay. If you like, you can share your results with us! We'd love to hear what you've come up with.
